Our Values

Trust. Integrity. Expertise.

We understand when people reach out to lawyers it is often in times of change, stress or loss. While our legal expertise and experience mean our clients can be assured of the best legal support and advice, our hands-on, personal approach also leads to ongoing professional relationships with our clients.

Our tight-knit team is led by Virginia Mills. Her leadership, with over 30 years in general legal practice, is complemented by Bede Mills’ knowledge in property law and estate planning and administration. They are supported by experienced legal executive Megan Burrrows and accountant Shanti Sinnaduray. As a small, expert team Duggan & Murphy operate a more efficient legal practice.

Our clients also benefit from our professional networks. When an issue is out of our area of expertise, we ensure our clients get the best support from the right legal professionals.

“Our attention to detail and commitment to providing excellent legal services means we work with families over generations, throughout their lives.”

— Virginia Mills, Owner

For over 100 years our firm has served the families of Auckland, generation after generation.

In the 1920s Mr Roy Duggan, an Irish immigrant, set up a small law firm in Auckland. Shortly after the end of World War II, he was joined by Mr Hugh Murphy, and Duggan & Murphy was established.

Virginia Mills took over the leadership of the firm 38 years ago. After working as a registered nurse and midwife for 14 years, Virginia was drawn to the law, following an interest in the medicolegal field. After completing her degree she moved into general practice, where her drive to support people through challenging situations was a natural fit.

Bede Mills joined the family business in 2017 after working at a practice in Wellington for four years. Following his mother’s lead into the law, Bede has found his own place supporting clients through change and is an expert in Property Law and Estate Planning. Bede is currently in the process of completing a Master of Laws.

Megan Burrrows has been with Duggan & Murphy for over 40 years and was trained by Mr Hugh Murphy; she is highly experienced in property law and provides invaluable support to relationship property clients. Having an accountant on the team sets Duggan & Murphy apart from other practices, and Shanti Sinnaduray’s experience and attention to detail mean she is an integral part of the high quality service we offer.
